FirePlotter is a firewall traffic vizualizer or a real-time session monitor for your firewall – for your Cisco ASA/PIX or FortiNet FortiGate firewall that is. It collects traffic information, displays said information in real time, and allows you to replay all the session data it collects. By analyzing the data collected by FirePlotter you can discover which employees are inappropriately using the internet for example. Or you can discover hacker attacks and security breaches. Or you can see how your bandwidth is being used.

FirePlotter works with 32 as well as 64-bit Windows editions. Support is provided for Windows XP, 2003, 2008, Vista, and 7. To get the application up and running on a PC powered by any of these Windows editions you will have to go through a simple setup procedure: download an installer, run it, follow the instructions presented by a setup wizard.

There are two modes for the FirePlotter interface: Basic and Advanced. By using FirePlotter in Free Mode, you can play around with the interface in Basic Mode only. That’s because the Advanced Mode is not available; it is only available for licensed versions of the application. What you can do is request a 14-day trial license to remove this and all the other limitations that come with FirePlotter in Free Mode.

FirePlotter puts the following features at your disposal: view traffic info in real time, record and replay session data, useful listing and summaries, analyze traffic in detail, auto DNS and name resolution of IP addresses, provides support for all Cisco PIX and ASA firewalls, provides support for all FortiNet FortiGate firewalls.

Track hacker attacks, monitor web usage, identify unfamiliar connections, identify inappropriate internet usage – FirePlotter helps with these tasks and more.

Pros

FirePlotter works with 32 and 64-bit Windows editions; installing the application takes little time and effort. There are two modes for the interface: Basic and Advanced. FirePlotter provides real time web traffic information, records session data, replays data, allows you to analyze the data.

Cons

Multiple limitations for FirePlotter Free Mode. Request a trial license to use the application for free for a trial period of 14 days.
